Only two oil plays across the U.S. recorded increased drilling activity in the past week and both are in Oklahoma.
The Ardmore Woodford jumped from 3 to 6 drilling rigs, reported the Baker Hughes Co. in its latest rig report. The Arkoma Woodford, noticeably absent from any drilling activity for several weeks, saw its first rig reported.
The state’s other major play, the Cana Woodford saw a decline of two rigs leaving 20 active in the region of western Oklahoma.
The Permian Basin, located in West Texas and southeast New Mexico, recorded a decline of one rig, leaving a total of 300 still pursuing new oil and gas. The Williston in North Dakota dropped one, leaving 33 active rigs.
The Eagle Ford was unchanged at 48 rigs and the Haynesville saw no change with its 29 rigs. The Marcellus was also unchanged with a count of 24. The Utica stayed at 11 rigs.
The D-J Basin remained at 6 and the Barnett continued with one rig.
Oklahoma’s Granite Wash count dropped by one to 9 rigs. The Mississippian continued another week with no reported rig activity.
