The nation’s oil and gas rig count was unchanged over the past week but exploration in Oklahoma is on the upswing as the number of rigs increased to a total of 51.
The latest Baker Hughes Co. rig count showed a gain of 2 rigs in Oklahoma, the only state to record any increase in the past week.
Nationally, the numbers were unchanged at 592 rigs as the number of oil rigs grew one to 487 while the number of gas rigs declined one to 100. The miscellaneous count was unchanged at 5.
The U.S. remained 37 down from last year when the national rig count stood at 629. Over the year, the loss included 29 oil rigs and 16 gas rigs while there was a gain off 2 miscellaneous rigs. The number of offshore rigs was unchanged in the past week at 14.
Texas remained at 281 rigs. New Mexico’s count fell 3 to 102 and North Dakota was unchanged at 32. Louisiana stayed at 29.
The Red Top Rig Report published in Wichita showed Kansas added 2 rigs to reach a total of 18. Colorado stayed at 8 rigs and Utah was unchanged at 12. Ohio remained at 9. Pennsylvania’s count of 15 saw no change. Neither did West Virginia with 11 rigs. Wyoming continued with 21 rigs.
