Oklahoma Gas and Electric reports it has restored power to nearly 98% of its thousands of customers in Ada following this week’s tornado that knocked down power lines and damaged several buildings, including an elementary school.
An update from the utility Thursday morning indicated crews anticipated full restoration by late Thursday night. In Ada, damage includes 70 downed power lines, 128 broken power poles, 14 damaged transmission structures, tree damage to equipment, 66 broken cross arms and other equipment attached to poles.
OG&E stated it had restored power to 975 of essential services in impacted areas, including hospitals, emergency services, public works, and schools.
“Once we’ve repaired the power grid, we prioritize restoration for the community’s essential services, such as hospitals, police stations, fire departments, public works and other critical infrastructure. As those facilities come online, we turn our attention to individual homes and businesses experiencing an outage,” according to the utility.
