DOGE cancellations hit 2 Oklahoma operations

At least two closings of federal agencies or their buildings in Oklahoma are among those identified and carried out by DOGE, the Department of Government Efficiency and led by billionaire Elon Musk. One was a BIA office and the other a facility for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The DOGE website lists a number of agencies and operations that have been shut down across the U.S. and as a result at least $55 billion in savings have been made.

It identified a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service office in Broken Bow. A real estate agreement for a 2,325-square-foot office was terminated. The site said the closing or “true termination” as it was described, resulted in a total savings of $58,673 or an annual least cost of $30,612.

The second closing was the Bureau of Indian Affairs Office in Carnegie located in southwestern Oklahoma. The agency closed the office and the website stated the total savings were $6,063 or an annual lease cost of $2,798.

“Let’s balance the budget! DOGE’s total estimated savings are $55 billion, which is a combination of fraud detection/deletion, contract/lease cancellations, contract/lease renegotiations, asset sales, grant cancellations, workforce reductions, programmatic changes, and regulatory savings,” stated the website.
