BLM holds first land auction without Biden administration climate costs

November BLM Land Auction Results - SDRP

Last week’s nearly $21 million sale of Permian Basin oil and gas leases was the first to be held after the Trump administration removed an analysis of environmental justice and climate costs that had been imposed by the Biden administration.

The sale by the Department of Interior’s Bureau of Land Management covered 1,317 acres in southeastern New Mexico, attracted 25 bidders and resulted in a sale of $20.7 million.

The environmental group Inside Climate News described it as an attempt by the administration “to showcase its new pro-development approach to energy production, free of the constraints that bound President Joe Biden’s administration.”
