Only two of the nation’s oil plays saw a gain in rig activity

Oklahoma’s Granite Wash play was one of two plays nationwide that saw a gain in active oil and gas drilling, according to the latest Baker Hughes rig count.

The Granite Wash added one rig for a total of 9. The Eagle Ford play in South Texas also gained one rig to reach 44.

Baker Hughes  reported Oklahoma’s Cana Woodford went from 21 last week to 19 rigs in the most recent reporting period while the Ardmore Woodford still had no reported rig acitivity and the Arkoma Woodford lost its lone rig, leaving no rig activity.

The Permian Basin was unchanged at 304 rigs but in the Williston of North Dakota and Montana, the count fell by four to 33. The Marcellus remained at 23 rigs and the numbers in the Haynesville dropped by two to 29 active rigs.

The Barnett play remained at 2 rigs and the D-J Basin was unchanged at 6. The Mississippian no longer has any reported rig activity, at least based on the Baker Hughes report, after it lost its only operating rig. The Utica play remained at 11 rigs.
