Williams runs into opposition over Transco expansion

The Williams Cos. is running into some opposition in North Carolina over its plans to expand the Transco natural gas pipeline.

Residents of the city of Oak Ridge recently spoke against the Tulsa-based company’s Southeast Supply Enhancement project that is also opposed by the Sierra Club which is mobilizing opposition.

Plans were unveiled in October when Transco filed an application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. If approved, the project would be completed by the end of 2027 and Williams said it would meet the needs of about 9.8 million homes. Transco is considered the nation’s largest volume natural gas pipeline and the proposed expansion project would cost five southeastern states.
