Legislator wants legislature’s final approval for turnpike toll hikes

This week’s move by the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority to raise tolls by 15% in January drew the criticism of Rep. Annie Menz, a Democrat from Norman.

“A turnpike toll increase is something all Oklahomans should get a say on,” Menz said in a statement from her office.

“The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority should be held accountable by the legislature in order to best reflect the needs of Oklahomans. I plan to file a bill that would require legislative approval for turnpike toll increases. It is past time for OTA to have oversight from a legislature designed to be a voice for its constituents.”

The decision by the Turnpike Authority was unanimous in support of starting the big jump in tolls in January, 2025.

Part of the resolution by the Turnpike Authority board includes a 6% inflation-based raise that could be implemented every other year if the board votes to approve it .
