Some of the Oklahoma energy companies carrying out exploration in eastern Wyoming’s Powder River Basin just got some stiffer competition.

Denver-based Anschutz Exploration Corp., yes, the company owned by Phillip Anschutz who once briefly owned The Daily Oklahoman in Oklahoma City, just aquired a big part of the interests owned by the Oxy/Anadarko group in Wyoming. The move, in effect, made the Basin’s largest private oil and gas operator “a whole lot bigger,” reported Cowboy State Daily.

Oxy/Anadarko had reportedly owned 350,000 acres of mineral interests stretching from Powder River County, Montana and the acquisition pushed the Anschutz holdings possibly up to 810,000 net acres.
