Another win for Williams Cos. in legal spats with Energy Transfer

Another legal win for Williams Companies in its legal fight with Energy Transfer.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission decided this week against Energy Transfer’s request to review Williams Companies’ Louisiana Energy Gateway pipeline.

“We deny Energy Transfer’s petition for the Commission’s issuance of an order to Williams to show cause,” stated FERC in the recent ruling.

As Bloomberg had reported, Energy Transfer wanted the federal regulators to treat Louisiana Energy Gateway as an interstate pipeline and assume regulatory responsibility. Williams fought the move, arguing the pipeline is an intrastate line and not within the jurisdiction of FERC as a state court had previously ruled. The same court had also supported Williams in a right-of-way battle involving Gateway’s crossing of an existing Energy Transfer pipeline, reported Bloomberg.

As for the reaction at Williams?

“With this ruling, Williams continues to prevail against Energy Transfer’s efforts to hinder the development of our project.”
