Oklahoma sees gain in rig activity but the US records a drop

 

 

While Oklahoma gained on its rig count in the past week, the nation’s number of active oil and gas rigs declined, according to the latest Baker Hughes rig count released on Friday.

Oklahoma saw a gain of one rig to reach 39, the same count as one year ago. The U.S. recorded a decline of two to 583 oil and gas rigs. The breakdown included no change in the number of oil rigs at 483 while there was a gas rig drop of two to 95 rigs.

The U.S. count is 48 below the 631 rigs reported a year earlier. Over the past 12 months, the count included a decline of 29 oil rigs and 19 gas rigs while the number of active offshore rigs was unchanged at 19.

Oklahoma’s count of 39 compared to Texas where the total was 274, unchanged from the previous week. New Mexico’s count slipped by one to 105 while North Dakota continued with 33 and Louisiana saw an addition of one to reach 40 rigs.

Colorado fell one to 13 and the Red Top Rig Report indicated the count in Kansas fell by six rigs to 26. Ohio continued with 9 and Pennsylvania’s numbers fell by three to 18 rigs. Utah was unchanged at 12 while West Virginia numbers grew by one to 6 rigs. Wyoming remained at 14.

Little change was noted in the nation’s most active oil and gas plays. The Permian Basin count dropped one to 305. The Williston Basin was unchanged at 34 and the Eagle Ford added a rig to reach 48. The Haynesville numbers fell by one to 32 and the Marcellus count dropped two to 23.

The Ardmore Woodford stayed at 2 rigs and the Arkoma Woodford remained at one. The Cana Woodford added a rig to reach 19. The D-J Basin fell one to 9 rigs and the Granite Wash was unchanged wit four rigs. The Mississippian continued with no reported rig activity, based on the Baker Hughes release.

The Utica stayed at a count of 9 active rigs.
