OCC staffers claim Happy Hour article is unfair

Our story this week about a utility’s “Happy Hour” invitation to some staff members of the Oklahoma Corporation Commission prompted a request from the Commission’s Communications Division.

The division claimed in an email notice to OK Energy Today that General Administrator Brandy Wreath, who was one of those named on the invitation for the event, “never attended any event, reception or mixer at a club, bar or industry gathering.”

The notification explained that “Brandy does not consume alcohol, never has. He even requested several years ago that his name be removed from the email list. Even though he’s been out of PUD for a couple of years, he still received the invitation.”

The Communications Division further stated that the Happy Hour article “inaccurately infers that it is logical and appropriate to challenge OCC employees’s work ethic, personal ethics and professionalism for socializing with regulated entities. It’s an accusation without evidence or merit.”

Wreath’s name was mentioned in the article only in a copy of the original email invitation.
