Proposed federal transmission lines that would event stretch across Oklahoma and at the same time involve the controversial Grain Belt wind transmission line in Kansas aren’t being accepted with open arms in southwest Kansas.
Residents around Larned, including land-owners, raised their voices in objection at a recent public meeting. Some felt they were left out of the selection process and were never contacted about their land that could become the site of the large electrical transmission line.
The Department of Energy recently unveiled a preliminary list of 10 potential National Interest Electric Transmission Corridors (NIETCs) it says to “accelerate the development of transmission projects in areas that present an urgent need for expanded transmission,” reported KSNW News. One of the lines, the Midwest-Plains corridor would run through Kansas while another line, the Delta Plains line would run the entire length of Oklahoma.
