As the nation’s latest Baker Hughes report released on Friday showed a slight rebound in the number of active oil and gas rigs, it also revealed another drop in Oklahoma’s list of rigs still in the patch.
Oklahoma’s count fell one in the past week, leaving 33 active rigs in the various plays. A year ago, there were 40 active rigs.
Across the U.S., the count increased by two to 586 oil and gas rigs. The number oil-drilling rigs fell one to 477 while the total of gas rigs grew by three to 103.
The latest figures show that compared to one year ago, the U.S. count is down 83 from 669 including a drop of 28 oil rigs and 53 gas rigs. The offshore count is down one with 22 still drilling.
Oklahoma’s current count of 33 compared to 276 in Texas where there was no change from last week. New Mexico added a rig to reach 108 and North Dakota continued with 34 rigs.
Louisiana’s total slipped two to 42 and Colorado was unchanged at 14. According to the Red Top Rig Report, Kansas fell from 30 rigs last week to 26. Ohio added one toreach 11 rigs and Pennsylvania was unchanged at 21.
In Utah, drilling activity increased by one rig to 13 and West Virginia saw no change with a count of 5 rigs. Wyoming’s numbers stayed at 11 active rigs.
The Permian Basin drilling numbers remained at 305, same as a week ago. The Williston continued with 35 and the Eagle Ford count grew by one to 49. The Haynesville numbers slipped by one to 35 and the Marcellus was unchanged at 25 rigs.
The Ardmore Woodford dropped two rigs, leaving only one active in the play. The Arkoma continued with one and the Cana Woodford count fell by one to 16. The Barnett continued for another week with no drilling activity, based on the Baker Hughes report.
The D-J Niobrara count of 10 rigs was unchanged. Also unchanged was the Granite Wash where there are 5 active rigs. The Mississippian stayed at one rig andd the Utica play count increased by one to 11 rigs.
