CenterPoint Energy CEO says he won’t resign over Hurricane power outages

CenterPoint CEO vows to improve after Beryl power outages | The Texas Tribune

Texas legislators had their chance this week to grill executives of CenterPoint Energy, the Houston company that was first hit by Hurricane Beryl then by a storm of criticism from the governor, residents who went days without power and from lawmakers.

CenterPoint is also the company that was provided help by Oklahoma Gas and Electric in bringing back electrical power to nearly 3 million customers—but the restoration wasn’t fast enough to suit those who suffered in the heat.

This week, CenterPoint Energy’s CEO, Jason Wells took center stage and also professed he would not resign under the barrage of critical questions and accusations. He told lawmakers his resignation would do nothing to help the situation and if anything, would slow any momentum the company had in making needed changes reported the Associated Press.

It was the first such legislative hearing where lawmakers had their chance to grill Wells about the slowness of the company to restore power.
