Already weakened I-70 bridge struck again in western Kansas

 

 

An Interstate 70 bridge labeled “structurally deficient” in western Kansas was struck again this week by a truck with an over-height load.

The bridge is located in Trego County where WaKeeney is the county seat located west of Hays, Kansas. Debris fell to the Interstate after the collision.

KSNW reported it’s unclear whether the state transportation department will close the bridge like it did following another collision in March.

KDOT explained it sent crews to the scene to clean up the debris.  In a statement, the agency explained the bridge has been hit “multiple times”.

It was last month when KDOT launched repairs to a bridge located east of the bridge struck this week. A Salpulpa, Oklahoma firm, PbX Corp. had the $707,000 contract to repair a bridge located about 5 miles east of WaKeeney. This week’s incident occurred at a site west of WaKeeney,
