From trash to gas—a $32 million project in southwest Missouri

The city of Springfield, Missouri is starting a project to take advantage of the natural gas produced at its landfills.

But it”ll cost nearly $32 million to finish the Renewable Natural Gas project. Springfield intends to not only refine and reuse biogas produced by the mountain of packed trash, but make money off its production.

The Springfield Daily Citizen reports city leaders hope to begin construction in October and perhaps bring it online by late next year.
