Kansas legislators hope to land car plant in Wichita

Should Gov. Laua Kelly approve of a new budget sent to her by the Kansas Legislature, the state could use $200 million in economic development incentives to lure a possible car manufacturing plant to Wichita.

The plant, according to the Kansas Reflector, would be located adjacent to the Wichita State University innovation campus. Legislators, who reportedly have some knowledge of the intimate details, have not publicly discussed them. But an estimated $100 million would possibly be used to try and attract the plant.

Also included in the proposed budget is an attempt to use some of the same economic development funds to attract a Mattel amusement park in Bonner Springs. It would be part of a 180-acre, $500 million tourist hub in Wyandotte County.
