Oil up, natural gas down and OK energy stocks experienced losses

Another gain for crude oil prices on Thursday as a prediction of a tighter world market this year resulted in a nearly 2% jump for the day. At the same time, natural gas prices suffered another drop.

The International Energy Agency predicted there will be an oil demand growth for the remainder of the year.

West Texas Intermdiate crude for April gained $1.54 or 1.9% and closed at $81.26 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange…the highest level for WTI since early November.

Brent crude, the global benchmark rose $1.39 or 1.7% to settle at $85.42 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe, the highest finish since Nov. 6.

April natural gas rose 8 cents to $1.74 per 1,000 cubic feet.

It was a day of losses for more Oklahoma energy stocks. While Empire Petroleum dropped nearly 3%, Gulfport Energy rose about 3%.

Other energy stocks, according to the Texas Energy Report, had a mixed day of trading.

Exxon Mobil (XOM) up 1.94 at 111.47 – change 1.77%

Kinder Morgan (KMI) down 0.33 at 17.55 – change 1.85%

Marathon Oil Corp. (MRO) up 0.36 at 26.26 – change 1.38%

NOV Inc. (NOV) up 0.18 at 18.68 – change 0.97%

Occidental Petroleum (OXY) up 0.52 at 62.58 – change 0.83%

Phillips 66 (PSX) down 0.09 at 154.38 – change 0.06%

Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD) up 4.74 at 250.47 – change 1.92%

Tellurian Inc. (TELL) unchanged at 0.91 – change 0.00%

Valero (VLO) up 0.76 at 159.38 – change 0.47%
