Taking advantage of a software update for her rewards card, a Nebraska woman managed to steal more than 7,000 gallons of gas worth more than $27,000.
Reports say the woman used her rewards card from Pump and Pantry in Lincoln, Nebraska more than 500 times in a six-month period. Police say the woman used the software update from November 2022 that managed orders and rewards cards at the fuel pump, reported KOLN-TV.
However, Bosselman Enterprise, owner of Pump and Pantry, was unaware the update allowed anyone who swiped their rewards card twice to switch the gas pump from regular mode to demo mode. Another TV station, WILX-TV reported that in demo mode, free gas can be pumped.
