Mewbourne Oil leader named to OU Regents Board

Mewbourne Oil Company President and CEO Kenneth Waits has added another step in his list of appointments.

He’s been named to the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents by Gov. Kevin Stitt. A graduate of OU, Waits has been a big supporter of the university and the energy company he leads helped with contributions which led to the creation in 2007 of the Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy. Mewbourne founder Curtis Mewbourne, a 1958 OUO graduate of OU had previously endowed the Curtis Mewbourne Professorship and made a $6 milllion gift in 2000 to the School of Petroleum and Geological Engineering.

“Serving my alma mater is an honor, and I’m deeply appreciative to Governor Stitt for the opportunity to uplift the school I love,” said Waits. “The students, faculty, and staff of OU continue to inspire me every day, and I look forward to giving back to the community in this new role.”

Waits serves on the boards of the American Exploration and Production Council, the Permian Basin Strategic Partnership, and the Permian Basin Petroleum Association.

“Ken is a national voice in the energy sector who knows the OU community well,” said Stitt. “Ken loves the University of Oklahoma, and I can’t wait to see how he serves the school as member of the Board of Regents.”
