As Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell announced the Fed decided to leave the nation’s interest rate exactly where it is, it sent crude oil prices sliding downward.
West Texas Intermediate crude, the benchmark in the US, dropped $1.79 or 2.14% to finish the day at $81.68 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. It came as WTI futures for April delivery expired. The more active May WTI contract settled down $1.46 at $81.27 a barrel.
Brent crude, the global benchmark fell $1.43 or 1.64% to $85.95 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.
