Construction worker killed on I-35 work zone in northern Oklahoma

 

A driver who might have fallen asleep at the wheel led to the death of one construction worker and injuries to two others Monday morning on Interstate 35 near Tonkawa in northern Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol identified the dead constrution worker as Jacob Matuszczak, 19, of Wichita, Kansas. He worked for Wildcat Companies, headquartered in Wichita.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the car was traveling southbound at the side when it struck a bridge where construction work was underway. The vehicle ended up down an embankment at the edge of the overpass.The driver remained at the scene.

The two injured workers were flown by helicopter to a hospital in Kansas.

The case, now considered a homicide, is in the hands of the local district attorney.
