Growing number of counties ban solar and wind projects

Solar panels at the future Springfield solar farm in the Town of Lomira, Wisconsin on Tuesday, June 20, 2023. The nearly 900-acre, 100-megawatt solar project is being completed by Alliant Energy and is expected to create enough energy to power approximately 25,000 homes.

A report by USA Today claims that an estimated 15% of the counties across the nation have stopped new solar and wind power projects.

As the paper reported, its review “shows local governments are banning green energy faster than they’re building it.” The limits of the renewable energy projects includes outright bans, moratoriums, construction impediments and other conditions.

USA Today’s review found that 180 counties in the past 10 years were the sites of commercial wind-power projects but during the same time, more than twice as many took action to block further wind developments.
