Legislators want exemptions for Oklahoma’s anti-ESG law

Two legislative attempts to exempt municipalities from Oklahoma’s  Energy Discrimination Elimination Act were recently filed prior to the start next month of the 2024 legislature.

The effort is in the form of one bill filed by Republican Sen. Chuck Hall of Perry. He wants the Act amended by Senate Bill 1510.

The act targets financial institutions that apply ESG in discriminating against the oil and gas industry. At least one constitutional challenge was filed in November 2023 and is still being litigated.

Oklahoma Voice reported Sen. Rader filed Senate Bill 1536, which would give the state treasurer the ability to seek an attorney general’s opinion if he disagrees with how an agency or pension system is responding to the law.
