Not only did crude oil prices drop to a near five-month low in Tuesday’s trading, but Oklahoma energy stocks took a beating too.
Oil fell because of a stronger U.S. dollar and demand concerns. It was the fourth day in a row for crude prices to slide.
U.S. benchmark, West Texas Intermediate crude, ended the day 72 cents or 1% lower at $72.32 on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Brent crude, the global benchmark, fell 83 cents or 1.1% and closed at $77.20 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.
The day’s trading resulted in the lowest close for both Brent and WTI since July 6.
January natural gas rose 2 cents to $2.71 per 1,000 cubic feet.
Nearly every Oklahoma energy stock recorded losses for the day including 3% drops for Chesapeake Energy, Helmerich & Payne, Matrix Service, ONE Gas, Ovintiv and PHX Minerals.
