Kansas well plugging back underway

Kansas is moving quickly on the $25 million it received to plug thousands of abandoned oil and gas wells in the state.

A spokesman for the Kansas Corporation Commission updated legislators this week saying 1,740 wells have been capped or plugged so far and the cost was about $18 million.

Ryan Hoffman, the conservation division director at the KCC said when the plugging project is finished sometime next year, a total of 2,500 wells will have been capped. He told legislators that more than $6 million remains in the fund.
