Oil and gas put some Oklahomans on Forbes 400 list of billionaires

Oil and gas made Harold Hamm a billionaire. It is why he still on the list of the Forbes 400, the list of the nation’s wealthiese people.

Forbes came out with the list this week and ranked the 77-year old leader and founder of Continental Resources as number 30 on the list of 400. His net worth, even after acquiring public shares in the former publicly-traded Continental and taking the firm private last year, was listed at $25.2 billion.

Hamm was one of five Oklahomans and/or families that made the list.

George Kaiser of Tulsa, now 81, was ranked 49 with a net worth of $14.1 billion. Like Hamm, he too made some of his wealth from oil and gas along with banking.

David Green, founder of Hobby Lobby stores, had a net worth of $13.7 billion. The 81-year old retail businessman was ranked 51 wealthiest individual in the U.S., according to Forbes.

Judy Love, whose late husband helped found Love’s convenience stores and gas stations, is ranked 67 wealthiest with a net worth of $10.2 billion.

Another Oklahoman whose wealth came in part from oil and gas is Lynn Schusterman. She is 84 and ranked 258 wealthiest in the country with a net worth of $4.5 billion.

Number one on the national list? Elon Musk, who at age 52 is worth $251 billion, thanks to his Tesla and SpaceX operations.
