For a third straight trading session, crude oil prices dropped on Tuesday, largely because of the release of slow economic data from Germany and Britain weighed on the outlook for energy demand. There are increased signs that Europe might slip into recession.
Oklahoma energy stocks were down as well.
The U.S. benchmark, West Texas Intermediate crude dropped $1.75 or 2.1% and closed at $83.74 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Global benchmark Brent crude finished down $1.76 or 2% and settled at $88.07 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.
November natural gas rose 4 cents to $2.97 per 1,000 cubic feet.
Oklahoma energy stocks were mostly down for the day, although OG&E saw a more than 2% gain and PHX Minerals increased 3%.
