The city council in Edmond voted this week to prepare in the event it might join a class action lawsuit alleging water contamination.

Whether Edmond will join in the nearly $11 billion in settlements of lawsuits depends on the level of PFAS or “forever” chemicals in the city’s drinking water.

Fox 25 News reported the law firm of Martin, Barrett and Murphy informed the council it had reached settlement of a class action suit in South Carolina Federal court, one totaling $10.3 billion involving 3M company. Another settlement involving $1.185 billion against DuPont de nemours, Inc. and Corteva, Inc. was also made in June.

Drinking water providers can join in the suits if they have high levels of the PFAS chemicals.
