A stronger dollar and expectations of weaker international demand resulted in U.S. and Brent crude oil futures falling by $1 a barrel on Thursday. Oklahoma energy stocks also suffered losses for the day.
West Texas Intermediate crude dropped $1 or 1.14% to settle at $86.54 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Brent crude, considered the global benchmark, fell $1 or 1.11% to $86.60 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.
Thursday’s gain for the dollar pushed the yen to a 10-month low. It also kept the euro and sterling at their weakest levels in nearly three months.
October natural gas rose 7 cents to $2.58 per 1,000 cubic feet.
With a few exceptions, most Oklahoma energy stocks recorded moderate losses on Thursday—the largest being around 3%.
The Texas Energy Report indicated other energy stocks also recorded losses.
