Crude prices fell in Thursday’s trading, slipping 2% in the U.S. and 1% overseas. Prices had soared to 10-month highs and traders took profits.
West Texas Intermediate crude dropped $1.97 or 2.1% to settle at $91.71 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. It was Wednesday when prices gained 2%. During Thursday’s trading, WTI rose to its highest since August 2022 at $95.03.
Global benchmark Brent futures for Novoember dropped $1.17 or 1.2% and finished at $95.38 a barrel. Brent’s December futures fell 1.3% and closed at $93.10 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe. At one point in Brent trading, its front-month hit $97.69 a barrel, the highest mark since November 2022.
November natural gas rose 6 cents to $2.95 per 1,000 cubic feet.
The day’s trading produced a mix for Oklahoma energy stocks with the best producers seeing a 6% jump for Matrix Services and a 4% gain for coal producer Alliance Resource Partners.
Other energy stocks were also mixed for the day, according to the Texas Energy Report.
