Oklahomans Paying More for Energy Costs Than Neighboring States

A new study reveals that Oklahoma is the sixth most-expensive state in the nation when it comes to energy costs.

The WalletHub survey considers electricity, natural gas, motorhome fuel and home heating oil to calculate its final figures.

Oklahoma’s total energy cost of $583 is only exceeded by Massachusetts, Connecticut, Alaska, North Dakota and Wyoming.

The District of Columbia is the most inexpensive place on the list. Oklahoma’s neighboring states are ranked as follows:

  • Kansas – Ranked 47th – Total Energy Cost Average $384
  • Missouri – Ranked 38th – Total Energy Cost Average $434
  • Arkansas – Ranked 41st – Total Energy Cost Average $422
  • Louisiana – Ranked 43rd – Total Energy Cost Average $420
  • Texas – Ranked 49th – Total Energy Cost Average $378
  • New Mexico – Ranked 50th – Total Energy Cost Average $373
  • Colorado – Ranked 13th – Total Energy Cost Average $538
