Thank goodness for cooler weather this weekend

Yeh, it was hot on Wednesday in Oklahoma….hot enough to get News 9 chief meteorologist David Payne pretty excited about it.

It hit 113 degrees in Altus in the southwest.

The heat indexes in the state were even higher as Payne pointed out.

That’s right….a 120 degree heat index in the southwest town of Ringling.

The hot weather even got State Climatologist Mike McManus pretty excited too.

“Yikes, 113 degrees at Altus?!? That’s the highest temperature we’ve seen in the state since July 19 of last year when Mangum hit 115 and several other sites reached 114. So it could always be worse (that was my nickname in high school…I was quite popular!).”
Hot….but no records.
