Texas won’t ban Chinese citizens from buying land in the state.
The House of Representatives in Austin has voted against passing such a proposed law out of committee. That means the legislation is effectively dead since the regular session of the Texas legislature ends this week.
State Sen. Lois Kolkhorst, R-Brenham, originally filed Senate Bill 147 to block citizens and companies from China, Iran, North Korea and Russia from buying property in Texas reported the Houston Chronicle.
She said the measure was prompted by her concern that important Texas land is being bought up by agents of nations hostile to U.S. interests, a potential risk to national security.
