Oklahoma’s 911 fees could increase if Governor signs bill

House passes bill to increase monthly cell phone bill for improved 911 dispatch system

Oklahomans might see a big jump in their monthly 911 fees if a bill approved in the legislature and sent to Gov. Kevin Stitt is signed into law.

As the political website, NonDoc reported this week, the 67% increase would be part of a state effort to upgrade Oklahoma’s emergency hotline system. The increase is considered a “fee” rather than a “tax.”

The online news group reported HB 1590 would raise the monthly fee on all devices with the ability to dial 911 from 75 cents a month to $1.25 per month.
