Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt and his state Commerce Department leaders no doubt have moved on after losing a multi-billion dollar battery plant last month they hoped to secure from Volkswagen.
Over the weekend, VW and Canada, the car maker’s choice for the site of the nearly $15 billion gigafactory, sealed the deal. Europe’s largest carmaker joined government officials to build the plant in St. Thomas, Ontario, the biggest single investment every in the country’s electric-vehicle supply chain reported Reuters.
Oklahoma proposed $700 million in rebates to Volkswagen as it hoped to land the plant with up to 3,500 full-time workers after four to five years. What did Canada offer?
The Canadian government will provide an estimated C$13.2 billion in manufacturing tax credits through 2032 and a C$700 million grant.
