In a state where its Democratic governor and legislature leaders try their best to put the oil and gas industry under “green energy” control, New Mexico just reported a record $8 billion in state revenues last year. They also are quick to admit it was largely due to the booming oil and natural gas production.

How much of an impact did oil and gas have on New Mexico’s state government? Consider this—in the past five years, the total amount of money in New Mexico’s various investment funds nearly doubled—from $23 billion to nearly $43 billion reported the Albuquerque Journal.

To say the state was “rolling in the dough” might be an understatement.
