Pioneer Telephone discontinues cellular service

A long time rural telephone service, Pioneer announced it is discontinuing its cellular operations. The firm said its Broadband, telephone and iVideo customers would not be affected by the decision.

While this decision to discontinue our cellular operations only impacts our wireless business, it will allow us to focus on our core business going forward of providing broadband service in our cooperative,” stated the announcement.

The Kingfisher-headquartered firm informed customers on Friday that it made the business decision to discontinue its cellular operations by this summer.

“Pioneer Cellular is working with Verizon to ensure that our customers maintain their connectivity,” stated the firm in its announcement.

As a valued customer, we are working hard to define the specifics and ask for your patience as we work through the details. In addition, Pioneer is working to understand the impact on our employees as we transition our business.”

Serving rural Oklahoma for 70 years, Pioneer said no action was needed by its cellular customers at this time. The company said its customers would receive a letter in the next several weeks in which more information will be provided about transferring service and “exclusive promos with Verizon.”

Pioneer promised to work to ensure the transition will be simple and seamless.
