New Mexico, the state that loves the hundreds of millions of dollars brought into the state fund through oil and gas production, is toying with the idea of a new state agency to move the state away from dependence on the industry.
After all, New Mexico is the second highest-producing oil state in the nation, behind only Texas.
A bill is in the state legislature to do just that through the creation of an Economic Transition Division and it already won approval in a committee reported the Carlsbad Current-Argus.
