New Mexico legislators prepare to exit dependence on oil and gas industry

New Mexico, the state that loves the hundreds of millions of dollars brought into the state fund through oil and gas production, is toying with the idea of a new state agency to move the state away from dependence on the industry.

After all, New Mexico is the second highest-producing oil state in the nation, behind only Texas.

A bill is in the state legislature to do just that through the creation of an Economic Transition Division and it already won approval in a committee reported the Carlsbad Current-Argus.
