Crude oil prices retreated Wednesday after the federal government issued a report showing there was lower demand for gasoline in the peak summer driving season. It was seen as yet another sign that consumers feel the impact of higher interest rates as central banks fight inflation.
West Texas Intermediate crude for August delivery dropped nearly $2 a barrel—$1.96 to $102.26 in trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Global benchmark Brent crude for September delivery slipped only 43 cents and finished the day at $106.96 on ICE Futures Europe.ip to main content
