Monday’s trading brought little change in crude oil prices while natural-gas futures rose more than 6% over the planned shutdown of a key European pipeline.
Oil investors are worried about the impact of extended COVID-19 testing in China and what it might do to world-wide demand.
West Texas Intermediate crude for August delivery lost 70 cents to close at $104.90 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Global benchmark Brent crude for September delivery managed an 8-cent gain and settled at $107.10 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.
August natural gas rose 39, or 6.5%, to settle at $6.426 per million British thermal units on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The price jump was spurred largely after Russia shut down the Nord Stream 1 natural gas pipeline for scheduled maintenance work until 21. There ‘s a concern that gas deliveries through the European pipeline won’t be turned back on again.
The day’s trading resulted in some Oklahoma energy stocks losing more than 5%.
