A rescue effort was underway late Thursday at an electrical generating station in Pueblo, Colorado after two workers were trapped in a coal pile landslide.

The Denver Gazette reported the two were employees of Savage Systems, a subcontractor at the Comanche Generating Station. The newspaper said the victims were about 30 feet up on an 80-foot tall coal pile when the surface collapsed.

Pueblo firefighters responded after power plant employees tried to dig the two workers out by using shovels but could not locate them. The paper said rescuers excavated the huge coal pile where they thought the trapped workers were located.
