The question on Monday is whether crude oil prices can maintain or increase on the gains they made Friday when they settled up by more than $3 a barrel.
The increase perhaps helped some Oklahoma energy stocks as a few had gains ranging from 10 to 15%. Helmerich & Payne along with Chesapeake Energy had outstanding performances for the day.
Tight supply helped with the gain but prices still recorded their second weekly drop, largely because of the threat of increasing interest rates in the U.S.
West Texas Intermediate crude for August delivery finished up $3.35 or more than 3% at $107.62 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Global benchmark Brent crude for August delivery rose $3.07 or about 3% and closed at $113.12 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.
July natural gas fell 2 cents to $6.22 per 1,000 cubic feet.
A few Oklahoma energy stocks had large gains for the day including Helmerich & Payne with a nearly 15% jump in trading. Mammoth Energy finished up 9% and Chesapeake Energy saw a 10% gain for the day.
