Crude oil trading had a big Friday—so did Oklahoma energy stocks

With the end of the U.S. Memorial Day holiday weekend, investors await trading in crude oil prices. They rose on Friday at the start of the peak U.S. demand season, a time when Americans begin their summer travel. The build also carried over to Oklahoma energy stocks with some seeing major gains for the day.

West Texas Intermediate crude for July delivery rose 98 cents or 0.86% on Friday, settling at $115.07 a barrel in trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Global benchmark Brent crude for July delivery went up $2.03 a barrel and finished at $119.43 on ICE Futures Europe.

July natural gas fell 17 cents or nearly 2% to $8.73 per 1,000 cubic feet.

Friday was a strong day for Oklahoma energy stocks with Laredo Petroleum scoring a more than 11% gain, NGL Energy Partners up more than 5% and Continental Resources nearly 4.5%.

Now, the question is whether the excitement in the Oklahoma energy stocks will carry over to the last day of May.
