New Mexico’s abandoned wells are growing

 

An environmental group based in Albuquerque maintains the number of abandoned oil and gas wells in New Mexico’s Permian Basin in the southeast and the San Juan Basin in the northwest is growing.

The group conducted an audit which identified nearly 6,000 such abandoned wells in the state and about 2,600 are on federal land according to a report by the Carlsbad Current-Argus.
