Enverus rig count falls nationally

The U.S. rig count fell by eight in the last week to 769 rigs as of April 27, according to Enverus Rig Analytics.

The new weekly report by Enverus also showed increased activity in the Anadarko Basin while rig numbers dropped in the Permian Basin.

Activity levels are down 0.3% in the last month and up 46% YOY. The count reached as high as 783 in the last week, which was up by two compared to the prior week’s peak.

In the Williston Basin of North Dakota and Montana, the addition of four wells brought the total to 38. The basin hasn’t seen this level of rig activity in more than two years. There are 25 operators running rigs, which is more than double the 11 active operators a year ago.

The most active drillers are Oklahoma-based Continental Resources at six rigs and Hess and Whiting Petroleum at three rigs apiece.

Ovintiv, ConocoPhillips, Oasis Petroleum and Marathon Oil are each running two rigs. At this time last year, only Continental, Hess and Marathon had multiple rigs at work in the basin.
