Oil prices shot up after terrorist attack

Yemen's Houthis claim attack on Aramco facility after reports of a huge fire

A missile attack on an oil distribution facility in Saudi Arabia sparked crude prices to increase to more than $120 a barrel at one point in Friday’s trading before prices settled for the day.

West Texas Intermediate crude for May delivery rose $1.56 or 1.39% to settle at $113.90 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Global benchmark Brent crude for May delivery increased $1.62 or 1.36% and closed at $120.65 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.

Natural gas rose 17 cents or 3.15% and closed at $5.57 per 1,000 cubic feet.

Yemen’s Houthis rebels took responsibility for the rocket and drone strikes that targeted an oil depot in Jeddah and other facilities in Riyadh.

The attack also came as President Biden and European Union leaders agreed to a landmark energy supply deal in which the US will increase transatlantic gas deliveries in hopes of weakening the power of the Kremlin and its war against Ukraine.
