Baker Hughes reports rig activity growth in U.S.

While one company reported a large drop in rig numbers in the U.S., another, Baker Hughes, said there was a gain of 7 rigs in the past week across the country to reach a total of 670.

Earlier, Enverus Rig Analytics reported a drop in the nation’s oil and gas rig count.

The Baker Hughes rig report, released on Friday showed Oklahoma’s count was unchanged at 49 rigs. Nationally, the number of oil rigs grew by 7 to 531 while the number of gas rigs was unchanged at 137 compared to the previous week.

Baker Hughes also indicated that the national count grew by 253 from a year ago when there were only 417 oil and gas rigs actively seeking new energy in the U.S. The gain included an additional 207 oil rigs and 45 gas rigs.

Canada saw a decline of 36 rigs in the past week, leaving 140 in service.

Texas remained the leader with a gain of 6 to a total of 326 rigs while New Mexico’s numbers slipped one to 96. North Dakota gained one to 33. Louisiana added two to reach 60 rigs.

Colorado was unchanged at 14. The Red Top Rig Report showed the count in Kansas fell by three to 43 rigs. Ohio’s numbers slipped one to eleven rigs while in Pennsylvania, the rig count added one to reach 25.

West Virginia stayed at eleven rigs while Wyoming was unchanged at 15 rigs.

The Permian Basin remained tops in the oil and gas plays with a gain of 3 rigs for a total of 319.

The Williston added one to reach 34 rigs while the Marcellus was unchanged at 36. The Haynesville count grew by one to 36.

The Ardmore Woodford was unchanged at one rig while the Arkoma Woodford saw no change and continued with two rigs. The Cana Woodford activity fell by four to 24 remaining rigs.

The D-J Basin was unchanged at 14 rigs while the Eagle Ford activity picked up by one rig to reach 56 total. The Granite Wash saw a gain one one rig to reach a total of four rigs. The Mississippian stayed at one rig while the Utica activity dropped by one to eleven rigs.
