Air Force budget would reduce AWACS planes at Tinker AFB

The number of AWACS planes at Tinker Air Force Base could be slashed if President Biden’s proposed budget is approved.

Under his plan, Tinker would lose nearly half of its fleet of E-3 Sentry airborne target tracking planes that have been located at the Oklahoma base for nearly 45 years.

The Air Force Times reported that the Air Force’s fiscal 2023 budget request called for the Airborne Warning and Control system to be phased out for the next few years and be replaced by Boeing’s E-7 Wedgetail.
